INEOS Automotive Unveils the Groundbreaking INEOS Fusilier with Dual Powertrain Options
April 09 2024, INEOS Grenadier
INEOS Automotive has taken a bold step forward in the evolution of 4X4 vehicles by introducing the INEOS Fusilier, a new addition to their lineup that promises unparalleled off-road capability without sacrificing on-road performance. This latest innovation was revealed in London by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, marking a significant advancement in the company's commitment to providing sustainable driving solutions. The INEOS Fusilier stands out for offering both an all-electric powertrain and a low-emission range-extender electric option, catering to a diverse range of consumer needs and environmental considerations.
The introduction of the INEOS Fusilier follows the announcement of a zero-emission model line in May 2022, reflecting INEOS Automotive's dedication to decarbonization. The range-extender model incorporates a small petrol engine to power a generator, maintaining the battery's charge level when external charging options are unavailable. This innovative approach ensures the Fusilier is equipped to meet a wide array of global consumer demands while pushing forward the transition to greener automotive technologies. Further details on the alternative powertrain and its launch are anticipated by autumn 2024.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe emphasized the importance of diverse powertrain technologies in the journey towards decarbonization, stating, "In order to continue making cars that consumers want to drive while moving towards decarbonization, we need a mix of powertrain technologies." This philosophy underlines the INEOS Fusilier's design, which aims to provide practical solutions for varying driving needs, from short urban trips to longer, more demanding journeys.
The INEOS Fusilier is a product of collaboration with Magna, a leading automotive supplier, and will be manufactured at Magna's facility in Graz, Austria. This partnership builds on the successful development of the Grenadier station wagon and Quartermaster pick-up. The Fusilier distinguishes itself with a slightly shorter length and lower height compared to its predecessors, featuring a bespoke skateboard platform with a steel top hat and underbody, and aluminum doors and closures.
Part of the development process for the Fusilier includes extensive testing on Austria's Schöckl mountain, demonstrating INEOS Automotive's rigorous standards for durability and performance. This commitment to excellence is further evidenced by the unveiling of a Grenadier Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology Demonstrator at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2023, showcasing the potential for hydrogen-powered 4X4 vehicles pending the development of the necessary refueling infrastructure.
Lynn Calder, CEO of INEOS Automotive, remarked on the significance of the Fusilier's launch, stating, "Announcing our third model line is another significant milestone for INEOS Automotive, cementing our intent as an automotive manufacturer for the long haul." The INEOS Fusilier not only represents a leap forward in sustainable vehicle design but also reinforces INEOS Automotive's position as a forward-thinking and innovative player in the automotive industry.
